The Kinsey Scale, for those of you who do not know, is a scale that was invented in 1948 that was designed to attempt to explain an individual’s sexual orientation at a given time. Rather than labels like heterosexual, homosexual, and bisexual, the scale rates you 0-6. (0 being 100% heterosexual while 6 represents 100% homosexual) If you’re curious as to where you may rest on this scale, here’s a link to a site that developed a test to assess your possible position on it. http://vistriai.com/kinseyscaletest/
WARNING! Loads of opinion is in the rest of this post!
Again this scale was created in 1948. Even back then there were people that realized that sexuality, is not something that is easily explained. If you’re confused on your own sexual identity, don’t worry. You’re definitely not alone. Many people do not realize that sexual orientation is simply just who you are attracted to. That’s it. Of course, for those that identify as a 0,3, or a 6, their sexual orientation often becomes their identity. They are straight, bi, or gay. But what about the rest of the scale? Who are the 1’s, 2’s, 4’s, and 5’s? Don’t they need a label? Maybe a female 2 only ever dates males? Does she qualify as a bisexual? Or perhaps a transgendered 4 only dates other transgendered people? Where would they fit in with society’s labels? Oh wait, they don’t have to conform to any sort of sexual binary. After all, it is their life. Society has no business determining a person’s identity. If they choose to identify as lesbian, pansexual, queer, or anything and everything else, then that is who they are. Everyone gets to choose their own identity and lifestyle. Scales such as the Kinsey Scale are interesting and helpful to some but there is no set definition for any one person. Amazingly, individuals have their own set of individual wants and needs and can choose their own identity as well as they damn please. Funny how that works 🙂
P.S. – This blog is not political but I am a full supporter of equal rights for everyone in every sense of the way. Denying any human being equality is frankly the most idiotic and unjust thing a government and society could do. It goes against the constitution and against basic human morals.
My own personal results on the Kinsey Scale Test: 2-3 (I took it four times.) Which surprised me at first but now I’ve realized I should have known all along. I learn more about myself everyday 🙂
